Two builds of Android, from 2006 and 2007 were found on a 2012 The Verge article.[1] These are the earliest known builds of Android 1.x and Android overall.
Screenshots of an earlier build was taken on 13 September 2006;[a] screenshots depicting a later build was taken on 6 April 2007, one month before these documents were written.[2] [b] The screenshots themselves were taken from internal Google documents that were disclosed during the Oracle vs. Google trial regarding Google's use of Java in Android without permission from Oracle. The documents are dated May 2007.
Differences to build 2065[edit | edit source]
Status bar[edit | edit source]
While search is open, the status bar shows the current date, which does not happen in the later build. Also, the status bar (possibly) changed colors when entering different applications, such as messaging.
Browser[edit | edit source]
In the Browser application, the address bar is gray, compared to blue in the newer build.
Google Talk[edit | edit source]
The Google Talk app's interface appears to be mostly white instead of green on the home page, and has a light green background inside of a chat, and features a green top bar instead of blue.
Camera[edit | edit source]
The Camera app feature a top bar, while it does not in build 2065. Additionally, certain features appear to be missing. In this build, after the Capture mode immediately comes Information, while in build 2065, there are more modes to choose.
Calculator[edit | edit source]
The calculator application features a fully blue background, instead of wood in the later variant, and calculator screen has a different font and design.
Messaging[edit | edit source]
The Messaging app has a green background instead of white in the later version. Additionally, who sent the message is not specified.
Calendar[edit | edit source]
Unlike build 2065, the calendar in this build works and can be launched normally.

Notes[edit | edit source]
- ↑ In the screenshot with the text of the message, the date "9/13/2006" is visible; this confirms the theory that Android began to be actively developed closer to the end of 2006 - beginning of 2007, even before the first documented build 2065.
