About Internet Explorer 11 and Windows 8[edit source]
Interesting, Internet Explorer 11 can be unofficially installed on Windows 8 (not 8.1)? As Internet Explorer 11 is available for Windows Embedded 8 and Server 2012, which is have NT 6.2 kernel (same as Windows 8), it is can be installed on Windows 8 (with patching or without)? - Microsoft released IE11 for Windows Server 2012 and Embedded 8 because support for IE10 dropped in Feb 20. This update is not intended for Windows 8 because support for Windows 8 dropped 2016. I would recommend you when using any of these editions of Windows to use another browser such as Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, Firefox or Opera, for security and feature reasons. - But Windows Embedded 8 and Server 2012 based on NT 6.2 kernel, making it virtually the same as Windows 8, so, it is may be possible to install Internet Explorer 11 (with or without patching), and also support of Windows 8 can be unofficially extended to 2023 by installing updates from Windows Embedded 8 or Server 2012 (also in Vista can be extended support to 2023 by installing Server 2008 updates (including ESU, and BypassESU not needed, but Netfx4 ESU Bypass needed) UPD: Seems that it is not possible to install IE11 to Windows 8 without patching or fooling the installer as their checks not only for kernel, but for EditionID UPD 2: I am looked for update.mum, but did not found any references for Windows Embedded 8 and/or Server 2012 (but stop, there is maybe on different *.mum file) User:46.211.75.81 (talk) 08:25, 9 November 2021 (UTC)
Tomorrow, July 11, 2023 will mark the end of extended support for Windows Embedded 8 Standard and Windows Embedded 8.1 Industry. Users who are using the x86 version of Windows 8.x are now going to lose last chance — Windows Embedded 8.x is reaching the end of extended support tomorrow. Unofficial updates from Windows Embedded 8 and 8.1, which will be released tomorrow will be the last chance to unofficially install updates beyond January 2023 on Windows 8.1 (and Windows 8.0 as well). 95.134.111.155 16:17, 10 July 2023 (UTC)
