OS/2 2.00 build 6.605 is a beta build of OS/2 2.0 from September 1991. Michal Necasek, the author of the OS/2 Museum blog, wrote a post about this build in 2017 — when inquired about the disks, they stated that the build was not owned by them and that the owner had disallowed them from disclosing the disks' contents to the general public.[1] The disk images were later uploaded to the Internet Archive on 20 April 2022, except for the driver disk 3, which is missing. The reason for its out-of-sequence build number remains unknown.

New features and changes[edit | edit source]

Setup[edit | edit source]

The text-mode part of setup does not have gained many changes, apart from a progress bar now appearing during file copy, though it already restarts into the graphical part after the third disk. Many installation options were moved to the graphical part. After restart, the user has the option to run a mouse tutorial, or to select which components are being installed. Then, file copy continues with a very large, OS/2-themed progress bar, until the system is configured and ready to restart.

Tools[edit | edit source]

This is the first build to come with the picture lock screen. The user is now able to lock the system by setting a password and a picture to be displayed during lock. The system can be unlocked then by directly entering the password followed by pressing the ↵ Enter key.

Bugs[edit | edit source]

When the system is ready to restart for the second time, it prompts to remove the floppy disk from drive A:, even if no disk is inserted.
