Mandriva Linux is a discontinued distribution of Linux. It was initially known as Mandrake Linux, followed by rebrandings as Linux-Mandrake and Mandrakelinux. Finally, after Mandrake merged with Brazilian company Conectiva, it was renamed Mandriva Linux. As the first version, 5.1, went out, it was based on Red Hat Linux, hence the version numbering scheme, but later became independent. Most developers who were laid off went to Mageia. Later on, the remaining developers teamed up with the community and formed OpenMandriva Lx, a continuation of Mandriva.
