New features and changes[edit | edit source]

Boot screen[edit | edit source]

If the monitor's resolution is changed during bootup, the wallpaper is now preserved instead of changing to a blank, gray wallpaper. The boot screen itself also received a revamp, with the numbers "8.7" being slightly smaller and being colored purple.

Drive Setup[edit | edit source]

Drive Setup received new partitioning schemes. These include Mac OS UFS, Mac OS Server UFS, Default MkLinux, Preferred MkLinux, Preferred LinuxPPC and Default A/UX.

Control Panel[edit | edit source]

Most applets received new changes. The ColorSync applet has had the top mention extended from "Use this panel to specify profiles." to "Use this panel to specify profiles in your workflow or default profiles for documents". The Heidelberg CMM was also added under the CMM tab. The Mouse applet has had all mouse icons changed to the Apple USB Mouse, also known as the hockey puck mouse, while changing the selection method from multiple buttons to a slider. In the Multiple Users applet, the default profile picture of the owner has been changed from the Finder logo in the middle of the original iMac colors to a whistle. The options menu of the applet itself has been slightly tweaked, with it now including an option to select a microphone next to the "Users may speak their names" option. The proportions of individual options were also tweaked, with the "Welcome Message:" textbox being shorter and the spacing between options in Other being less spaced out. Lastly, the Keychain Access icon has been reverted to its previous state.

Fonts[edit | edit source]

New fonts were added. The ones included are: Andale Mono, Arial, Arial Black, Comic Sans MS, Courier New, Georgia, Impact, Times New Roman, Trebuchet MS, Verdana and Webdings.

Sherlock[edit | edit source]

Sherlock has received some updates and redesignes. The application itself has been renamed from Sherlock 3.0 to Sherlock II 1.0, however it is still refered to as "Sherlock II 3.0b1" in the System Profiler. A platinum border is no longer used, with it now including a metalic border, similiar to the QuickTime Player. The icons itself are no longer highlighted yellow if hovered over with a mouse as well. The options itself have been rearranged, with a new custom option being added, the "More Options..." menu being renamed to "Edit..." and the magnifier icon now being redesigned and in a circle.

Remote Access[edit | edit source]

Remote Access now includes new features and changes. It now includes a new "Launch Status application while connecting" option. The Automatic option itself was removed from the Protocol section, now requiring either PPP or ARAP to be selected.

Disk First Aid[edit | edit source]

Disk First Aid on startup has had it's text shortened and slightly reworded, with references to crashing being removed.

QuickTime Player[edit | edit source]

QuickTime Player received some minor enhancements and bug fixes. The number specifying the duration of the current movie or audio file is no longer bold and is in a different font.

Miscellaneous[edit | edit source]

Support for files larger than 2GB was added.

Bugs and quirks[edit | edit source]

Control Panel[edit | edit source]

The "Keychain Access" applet does not function properly in this build and instead causes a hang if a keychain is created or unlocked.

Sound[edit | edit source]

The sound is not produced correctly on most Mac computers, resulting either a high pitched sped up version of most alert sounds, or no sound present.

Sherlock[edit | edit source]

The "Entertainment" icon is missing, leaving an empty space that can be pressed to view the channel.
