Mac OS 8.5 was released on 17 October 1998. This version drops support for 68k systems. This version introduces the Sherlock search tool that would be kept up to Mac OS X Panther when Mac OS X Tiger replaced Sherlock with Spotlight. This version also includes enhanced support to colored icons and support for transparency and translucency effects.
