Mac OS 8.0 is the first version of Mac OS 8, which was released on 26 July 1997. Like Mac OS 7.6.1, it uses the rainbow Apple logo on the Apple menu. This version officially drops support for Motorola 68030 machines, though it is possible to run it on 68030 machines if installed on a 68040 machine first and then switched.
