Mac OS 7.7d3 ("Spittle")[a] is the earliest known build of Mac OS 8. For 68k machines, this build requires a Motorola 68040 or better processor to install this build. This is the first known build of Mac OS with the Platinum theme. Due to the earliness of this build, the About This Computer will still identify itself as "System Software 7.6", even though it is a build of what was supposed to be "Mac OS 7.7 (eventually Mac OS 8)".
