macOS Big Sur build 20E5231a is the official Beta 8 release of macOS Big Sur 11.3, which was released to Apple developers on 13 April 2021.[1]

New features and changes[edit | edit source]

Safari[edit | edit source]

  • This update adds a way to rearrange different sections on the Start Page in Safari like Favorites, Reading List, Siri Suggestions, Privacy Report, and others.
  • This update gives developers access to a new integration for developing features for the Start Page.
  • Support for WebM video playback is added.

iOS app support[edit | edit source]

  • The experience of running iOS apps on this version of macOS Big Sur on M1 Macs.
  • This update adds the Controller Emulation feature that can be enabled for iPhone and iPad apps to map game controller buttons to keyboard keys and mouse buttons.

Reminders[edit | edit source]

Reminders app receives a change that allows the reminder list to be sorted by Due Date, Creation Date, Priority or Title. Reminders can be moved manually across lists with drag and drop.

Apple Music[edit | edit source]

  • Apple Music receives a new library shortcut called "Made For You" that finds person mixes and Replay playlists. The Listen Now section has been updated with support for highlighting live events.
  • Apple Music includes a new autoplay option that allows it to automatically continue playing music after a playlist/music queue ends. With this feature enabled, ‌Apple Music‌ audio will not end even after a playlist or album is over.

Apple News receives a redesigned Apple News+ tab with a dedicated "For You" section and a new Browse tab.

Hardware support[edit | edit source]

  • This build adds support for Playstation 5 DualSense controllers.
  • This build adds support for Xbox Series X/S controllers.
  • HomePod Stereo pairs support is added. It now shows up as a single option rather than seperate as it was in prior versions.

Apple Care[edit | edit source]

There is an updated Support interface when accessing "About This Mac", it includes details on the warranty and it allows for starting a repair right from the Mac interface. It works similarly to the AppleCare coverage menu in the iOS Settings app which lets users request repairs, buy an AppleCare plan and check their coverage.
