MS-DOS 6.00 build 0015 is an early build of MS-DOS 6.00. The first two disks of this build were uploaded to a BBS on 9 August 1992, with the other two being uploaded on 11 August. The bootable demo disk of this build was uploaded to a BBS on 24 September.
The system at this stage is seriously reworked in comparison with MS-DOS 5. Many new built-in system utilities appeared. The size of the distribution has grown more than 2 times.
New features and changes[edit | edit source]
- This build includes a beta release of DoubleDisk 3.0 by VertiSoft, which is set up by launching the
MDSETUP.BAT
batch file. DoubleDisk was later used as a foundation for DoubleSpace. - Microsoft Diagnostics (
MSD.EXE
) has been added. - New boot sector with identifier (
MSDOS_6.0
) - The list of Setup launch parameters has been expanded.
- Setup has been significantly redesigned. The interface is closer to Windows 3.1 Setup.
- The text warning about the release expiration, which was removed from MS-DOS 5.00 RC3a, has reappeared. It does not limit functionality.
- MS-DOS Shell copyright updated to 1992.
- An interactive help system has been introduced (
HELP.EXE
) - The text help system has been renamed to (
DOSHELP.EXS
) - QBasic has been updated to version 1.1.
- MS-DOS Editor has been updated to version 1.1.
- The distribution includes the Microsoft Anti-Virus antivirus application, which has a graphical interface.
- DOS Backup utility introduced.
- The MS-DOS Defragmenter utility has been introduced.
- The distribution includes the Microsoft Interlnk Server Version 1.00 application for network data transfer.
Findings[edit | edit source]
- Towards the end of setup, a "More to come..." placeholder text appears in the billboards.
- The setup billboard text mentions both clean and interactive boot options, but they weren't implemented until the next build.
