Linux Mint 8 is a version of Linux Mint, compiled on 28 November 2009. It ended support in April 2011. This version was based on Ubuntu 9.10.

New features and changes[edit | edit source]

Places[edit | edit source]

In Menu preferences, users can now define custom "places" to access folders in addition to the default places. The user can also disable places from System and Places sections.

Start panel[edit | edit source]

A new lock screen button was added to the start panel.

Software Manager[edit | edit source]

The GUI has been refined to make the program easier to use. The program now shows APT status, automatically notifies users of new data and the user can mark multiple applications for installation.

Update Manager[edit | edit source]

The user can now define columns in the list of updates. The user may also resize the program.

Software Sources[edit | edit source]

The user can now define which sources the user wants to get updates from.

Upload Manager and File Uploader[edit | edit source]

What was previously called "mintupload" is now split into Upload Manager and File Uploader. The user can define (S)FTP and SCP through the program.

User interface[edit | edit source]

This version introduced the then newest version of the GNOME Desktop Environment (which was 2.28 at the time) and uses the latest Shiki icon pack.
