Kubuntu 6.06 is the first long-term support version of Kubuntu, which was released in June 2006 under the codename "Dapper Drake". Like other variants of Ubuntu, this version introduces a new type of installation media, which boots into a live environment, from where the user can try out Kubuntu and then eventually install it onto the machine. The older variant of installation media was kept and renamed as "alternate" installation media for compatibility reasons.
