Internet Explorer 2.1 is a minor update to the second version of Internet Explorer exclusive to Windows 3.1x and also worked on Windows NT 3.51.

It is an intermediate release to bridge the gap between Internet Explorer 2 and 3 since at the time of release, version 3 was not available as a 16-bit edition yet, in a similar fashion of Internet Explorer 1.5.

Version 2.1 brought support for animated GIF images and had a better frames support as well as support for the no-cache pragma, dialer scripting and support for plugins (e.g. video players such as Real Player) using the NPAPI standard of Netscape Navigator 2.0 and support for the BGSOUND element (aka background music support).[1]

It is the first one to use the iconic blue "e" logo as a corner loading animation, but not in any other context.
