RELNOTES.TXT[edit | edit source]

Internet Explorer
=================
- If your MSN connection is not terminated gracefully, you may not be able
to log in again with your current login ID for 6 hours. You will need
to use another login ID. The issue is being addressed and should be
resolved early in the week of 5/26.

- The Internet access telephone numbers provided by Microsoft for this
beta are themselves undergoing beta testing. If you find you have
problems connecting to one of the numbers, please try other numbers
  before reporting a problem.

- The setup application for this beta release will reset any options you
have changed to default values; you will need to change these back to
your desired values. Any Beta 1 Internet Shortcuts you have saved will
  still be usable.

- This release contains support for configuring Internet Explorer to
work with CERN httpd 3.0 and TIS toolkit proxy servers, through the
Internet Control Panel. If you have already configured Internet
Explorer using the instructions provided in earlier releases, you
will need to re-enter your proxy server settings.

- The Dial-Up Networking Autodisconnect feature does not properly sense
activity during long downloads, for example, FTP-ing a 5MB file. To
work around this, either turn off Autodisconnect at the Internet Control
Panel, or set the Autodisconnect idle time to a higher value.

- If you are running Microsoft Network client software on an internal
TCP/IP-only network, you may experience lengthy timeouts on client
operations (such as 'net use') if you are connected to the Internet
via a dial-out connection when you attempt Microsoft Network client
operations. This is because server name resolution attempts are
routed to the dial-out connection's DNS server first, and the name
resolution may take some time to fail.

Note that this problem occurs only while the Dial-Up Networking
connection is made; once you hang up you will experience normal
  operations.

To work around this problem, you should consider installing an
additional network protocol on your internal network.

Bugs, quirks and observations[edit | edit source]

  • Proxy server configuration interface in the control panel applet Internet has been implemented somewhere between this and build 74.
  • Downloads having long file names are trimmed to the 8.3 filename convention. This was corrected latest by build 206.
  • The network setup assistant still warns the user that Windows file sharing is enabled for the same LAN connection which will also be used by Internet Explorer and it might put the computer's data at risk, since other Internet users might gain access to its files.
  • The Dial-Up Networking Autodisconnect feature does not properly sense activity during long downloads, for example, FTP-ing a 5MB file. To work around this, users have to turn off Autodisconnect at the Internet Control Panel, or set the Autodisconnect idle time to a higher value.
