IRIX
IRIX is an operating system developed by Silicon Graphics. IRIX was one of the first UNIX flavors to include a GUI by default. It was widely used in computer animation and scientific computing due to its high-performance 3D graphics. The last major version of IRIX was version 6.5 from May 1998. Free minor updates were released until 2005, with updates later than 6.5.22 requiring an active Silicon Graphics contract being released until 16 August 2006 with the release of IRIX 6.5.30. Sales were discontinued on 29 December 2006, with support being ended in December 2013.
IRIX is based on UNIX System V with BSD extensions.
