HarmonyOS NEXT is a unified close-sourced OS distro of OpenHarmony, announced at HDC 2023 on 4 August 2023, which use the HongMeng Microkernel and no longer support for Android Apps. On March 20, 2025, Richard Yu, Chairman of Huawei's Consumer Business Group, confirmed that HarmonyOS NEXT-preinstalled PCs would be released in May 2025.

HarmonyOS 5.x	26 November 2024	First release of HarmonyOS NEXT. Preinstalled in select SKUs of Mate 70 Series (Celestial Pillar) and Mate X6 (Iceland) (known as the HarmonyOS NEXT Pioneer Edition). Pura X (Verde) was the first smartphone model to exclusively support HarmonyOS 5, with no downgrade option to HarmonyOS 4.x.
