Windows Server build 17046 is the fourth Insider Preview build of Windows Server, version 1803. It was released on 5 December 2017.
- Dynamic disks will fail I/O with a
STATUS_INVALID_DEVICE_REQUEST
error. This results in failures to mount or format the volume.
- You can't upgrade from an older build to this one, a clean install is required.
- The Health Attestation CSP fails with error code 500 when attempting to get a certificate.
- If scatter-gather list (SGL) functionality is enabled, data corruption my occur on NVMe (NVM Express) drives.
- The BFE (base filtering engine) service may fail to start, which prevents the Windows Defender firewall service (MpsSvc) from running.
- There's a chance of a BSOD because of a kernel security check failure from a corrupted list entry in a deferred free pool.
- On this build, Hyper-V isolated containers will fail to start with an error of "The description string for parameter reference (%1) could not be found. (0x3ab6)". To get around this bug, disable cloning optimization by executing the command
reg ADD “HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Virtualization\Containers” /v TemplateVmCount /t REG_DWORD /d 0
. After that, either reboot or restart the vmcompute sevice.
- Product keys refuse to activate on this build.
