Windows NT 4.0 build 1381.4 is the official Service Pack 3 release of Windows NT 4.0, which was released on 15 May 1997.

Changes[edit | edit source]

  • OS Loader has been updated to 4.01. However, it only shows this number when it displays that the user can press the spacebar to invoke the "Hardware Profile" menu. On the page where the user can select the OS, it still reports version 4.00. This is also the case for all subsequent updates of Windows NT 4.0.
  • The file copy dialog has been updated. This can be easily seen when installing applications such as Internet Explorer 3.
  • The regular GINA shipped with the OS can now also be replaced in the Workstation SKU. This was previously available since Windows NT 3.51 only for the Server SKU.
  • This Service Pack introduces the SAM Lock Tool, which is more known as its file name, SYSKEY.EXE. This program persisted in further versions of Windows until it was removed in Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, due to security issues. It was already included in the Q143475 hotfix for earlier builds of NT 4.0.
