Windows Me build 2465 is a pre-Beta 3 build of Windows Me, which was uploaded to BetaArchive's FTP server on 27 January 2020.[1] This build was first mentioned in Paul Thurrott's "The Road to Gold: The development of Windows Me" article, where it is stated it was released to testers on 11 February 2000.[2]

Changes[edit | edit source]

  • Updated the setup interface to resemble the RTM.
  • Updated the boot screen to the one used in the final product.
  • Updated Windows Installer to version 1.2.
  • Updated MSN Gaming Zone.
  • Updated the copyright date of winver from 1981–1999 to 1981–2000.

Bugs[edit | edit source]

S3 drivers[edit | edit source]

Upon using S3 video adapters, Windows will complain that its own drivers will not work properly, thus the display will be stuck at 640×480 resolution and 16 colors mode. This error will also appear upon every boot and other drivers cannot be installed correctly, meaning that S3 video adapters are not recommended for this build.

Neptune reference[edit | edit source]

A total of 8 files with the version number 5.50.5116.1 were found in this Millennium build, but it is unknown whether this Neptune build was ever compiled.

Some speculate this would've been a Milestone 2 build. It would've been compiled someday after 11 December 1999, meaning it would be one of the last Neptune builds before the Neptune project was canceled in January 2000.
