Windows 95 build 311 is a pre-beta 3 build of Windows 95 that was scene leaked soon after it was compiled, however, the ZIPs from the leak requires a password. It was found again and shared on OSBetaArchive on 13 December 2015, alongside builds 180 and 302.[1]
This is the last build to use SETUP.BMP
as its default wallpaper.
Changes[edit | edit source]
- This is the first build from the 3xx range that no longer requires a beta site ID and password to install.
- This is also the first build to run Scandisk before starting setup. When Setup is started under Windows, it will run Scandisk for Windows (
SCANDSKW.EXE
) in silent mode. Scandisk can be bypassed, however, by adding the /IS switch toSETUP.EXE
. Microsoft only recommended using this option if ScanDisk can cause problems on the computer. - The "Select Components" page of Setup has been changed to reorder components as seen in the RTM. For example, Phone Dialer and HyperTerminal have been moved to the subcategory "Communication" and audio and video codecs to "Multimedia". "Windows 3.1-like style User Interface" has been removed and on the "Computer Settings" page, there is a new option called "User Interface". Setting it to "Windows 3.1 (Program Manager)" has the same function. "Microsoft At Work Fax" has been renamed to simply "Microsoft Fax".
