Windows 10 build 17692.1000 is the sixteenth Insider Preview build of Windows 10 October 2018 Update. This build was released to Windows Insiders in the Fast Ring on 14 June 2018.
New features and changes[edit | edit source]
- SwiftKey is now intergrated with the typing experience when using the touch keyboard to write in the following languages, these are US English, British English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, and Russian.
- Integrated WebDriver (an open-source tool for automated testing of web apps) into Microsoft Edge, and made WebDriver a Windows Feature on Demand. To install it, either turn on Developer Mode, or install it under the optional features page in Settings.
- Added the ability to make text larger via a slider located in the Display page of the Ease of Access section of the Settings app. It can resize the text across the system, Win32 apps and UWP apps.
- Narrator now comes with a new keyboard layout that is designed to be more familiar to screen reader users.
- Narrator now automatically reads the content of a dialog box when brought to the foreground.
- You can now search for text by using a new search feature. If the text is the one that's desired, Narrator will move to that item.
- Narrator now has the ability to present a list of links, headings or landmarks present in the application or content. The results can be also filtered by typing in the list or text field of a window.
- You can make Narrator select a block of data by pressing F9, navigating to the end of the block by pressing F10. Once F10 is pressed, the entire block of content between the two points will be selected.
- Pressing the Down arrow key while in Scan Mode will make Narrator stop at interactive elements, such as web links.
- Added audio controls to the Game bar. You can either change the default audio output device or adjust the volume of games and apps running.
- Added a new performance section, which allows you to see the game's framerate, CPU usage, GPU VRAM usage and system RAM usage.
- A new "Dedicate resources" toggle has been added to the Game bar. It is intended to improve game performance on PCs with many background processes.
- Updated the search previews to make it easier to find official download pages for Windows software.
- In Mixed Reality, you can now stream audio to both the headset and PC speakers simultaneously.
- Some error codes in Mixed Reality Portal were modified to be more specific to certain failures.
- Added acrylic support for right-click menus (for example, when you right-click on an app that's running on Task View).
- Added the ability to make downloaded files On-Demand online-only if the user hasn't used in a certain number of days. Navigate to Settings -> System -> Storage -> Storage Sense to turn the feature on.
Bugs[edit | edit source]
General[edit | edit source]
- If a picture password is enabled as the sign-in method, the login screen will crash in an endless loop.
- DRM video playback from sites such as Netflix is broken in Microsoft Edge on this build.
- There may be random reliability and performance issues when the Start menu is launched.
- The acrylic background on the taskbar flyouts (network, volume, etc.) is missing.
- When executing HLK Component and Device driver tests, there's a chance of a system crash that blocks test execution.
- Due to a merge conflict, some settings in the Settings app may be unexpectedly missing and/or missing their labels.
- The settings for the keyboard found in the Ease of Access center is missing text and visible values in the two combo boxes.
Narrator[edit | edit source]
- When Narrator starts, a dialog appears that informs the user of the change to Narrator's keyboard layout. Sometimes the dialog may not take focus or speak when Narrator is started.
- When using Narrator's scan mode, it may stop multiple times on a single control (an example is if there's an image present that doubles as a link)
- If Narrator's default key is changed to just Caps Lock, the Insert key will continue to function until the Caps Lock key is used as the Narrator key or if Narrator is restarted.
- If Narrator's default key is changed to just Insert, and you attempt to send a Narrator command from a braille display, then these commands will not function.
- Sometimes the title of the dialog is spoken more than once.
- Some Narrator commands, such as toggling Scan Mode on and off, changing the volume, the voice speed, changing verbosity and context verbosity commands may not be announced when executed.
- If you have previously performed a Find using Narrator's find feature, and the dialog is brought up, the text will not be cleared from the field.
- Surface Studio devices can't upgrade to this build because of an error saying "Your PC hardware is not supported on this version of Windows 10".
Game bar[edit | edit source]
- The Game bar does not work on the x86 version of this build.
- The framerate counter chart sometimes does not show up correctly over certain games.
- The CPU chart shows an incorrect percentage of usage on the top-left corner.
- Charts in the performance panel don’t update immediately when clicking through tabs.
- The user’s gamerpic doesn’t display correctly, even after signing in.
