Windows 10 build 17093 is the fifteenth Insider Preview build of Windows 10 April 2018 Update. This build was released to Windows Insiders in the Fast Ring on 7 February 2018.
New features and changes[edit | edit source]
- Game bar was given a visual overhaul in this build. You can now choose either a light or dark theme. You can go to your captures, toggle the microphone, and camera, and edit the title of the Mixer stream, all from new buttons on the Game bar. A new clock has been added, and the settings have been made easier to use.
- A delete button has been added at the Diagnostics & feedback section of the Privacy page of Settings. This deletes the Windows diagnostic data that's associated with the device.
- HDR video was made available on more PCs via new functionality located in Settings -> Apps -> Video playback. An experimental calibration tool was added. To access it, click the link "Change calibration settings for HDR video on my built-in display".
- Introduced a new graphics settings page for machines that have multiple GPUs.
- Windows 10 S (Cloud SKU) no longer shows passwords anywhere if Windows Hello is enabled.
- Improvements to Eye Control, detailed in the official announcement.
- The Windows Defender settings page was renamed to "Windows Security". This page was also redesigned as well to put emphasis on the various protection areas to help keep the PC safe.
- Windows Defender now has new Account Protection and Device Security pillars.
- You can now pair and connect supported Bluetooth devices with a single click. When Windows detects that the Bluetooth devices are ready to be paired and are in range, it now shows a notification to the user allowing them to quickly and conveniently start the pairing process.
- You can hover at the top of Microsoft Edge while in full screen to access the address bar, and navigate to other websites, add a site as a favorite, as well as other actions.
- You can now print webpages without ads and other clutter from the web on Microsoft Edge. Toggle the "Clutter-free printing" option at the left of the print dialog to perform this.
- Multilingual text support - you no longer have to change the language manually anymore. Windows can support up to three Latin script languages.
- Words will be suggested when you type in the following languages on the touch keyboard: Assamese, Bashkir, Belarusian, Greenlandic, Hawaiian, Icelandic, Igbo, Irish, Kyrgyz, Luxembourgish, Maltese, Maori, Mongolian, Nepali, Pashto, Sakha, Tajik, Tatar, Tswana, Turkmen, Urdu, Uyghur, Welsh, Xhosa, Yoruba, Zulu.
- Added new categories to the Privacy settings navigation pane.
- Added a new option to Speech, Inking & Typing settings under Privacy to view the user's dictionary.
- You can now use Narrator in Safe Mode starting with this build.
- Improvements to Windows Subsystem for Linux, detailed in the official announcement.
Bugs[edit | edit source]
- Upgrade installations can get stuck at 88% percent for an abnormally long time.
- Some PCs will fail to resume from hibernation, requiring a hard reset to recover.
- If you install a font from the Microsoft Store and then install a new build, the Store package will remain installed, but the fonts within the package are missing. The workaround is to uninstall the font package from the Apps section in Settings, and then reinstall the font from the Store.
- If an East Asian keyboard is the only input method currently in use, the touch keyboard will show an English layout with no IME on/off key. To workaround this, add a second keyboard layout from the Region & Language settings page or use the IME mode icon on the taskbar.
- Sometimes the Japanese IME won't work in UWP apps. If this bug is encountered, switch to a Win32 application, turn on the IME there, and then switch back to the UWP app.
- Three and four finger gestures on the touchpad can become unresponsive in this build.
- Windows Hello does not work on Surface laptops with this build.
- Plugging in an external DVD drive will make
Explorer.exe
crash. - Settings will crash if the Themes settings page is opened.
- Buttons on the Game bar are not centered correctly.
- In some games, mouse and keyboard input will still go to that game while the Game bar is open.
- Selecting a notification after taking a screenshot or game clip opens the Xbox app's home screen instead of opening the screenshot or game clip.
- After Game bar closes, the mouse cursor goes back to the position it was in when Game bar was opened.
- In the text box for Mixer stream title, using non-character keys such as Tab, Delete, Backspace may cause the game to freeze for a few seconds.
- Bringing up the Game bar using the Xbox button on an Xbox One controller does not work in some games.
- If you had HomeGroup added as a folder to appear on the Start menu and you upgrade to this build, the Start menu will no longer function due to HomeGroup being removed.
