New features and changes[edit | edit source]

- Made the Cortana search box on the taskbar gray.
- Cortana's voice in notifications and Action Center was updated.
- Added a new accent color picker. It can be also used to configure the desktop background if you have Solid Color or Picture (with position set to center or fit).
- Added an option to automatically remove files you don't need if the system is running low on disk space.
- Merged the Wi-Fi settings under the Wi-Fi services in the Settings app. Wi-Fi Sense and Paid Wi-Fi Services have been merged into a single section have been merged into a single section named "Wi-Fi services". This is located under Settings -> Network & Internet -> Wi-Fi.
- Added a new power slider. It is only seen on selected PCs in this build, and it is non-functional.
- The Mail app is pinned to the taskbar by default.
- Snipping Tool received a new set of icons.
Bugs[edit | edit source]
- After updating to this build, constant crashes with the
Spectrum.exe
service may occur causing PCs to lose audio, disk I/O usage to become very high, and apps like Microsoft Edge to become unresponsive when doing certain actions. To fix this, navigate to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Spectrum, and delete the PersistedSpatialAnchors folder. - Some systems may crash with a GSOD caused by
storport.sys
during the installation of this build, causing it to roll back to the previous build. - Sometimes the audio can randomly stop working with a "device in use" error. Restarting the "Windows Audio" service can temporarily fix the problem.
- Under Settings -> Update & security -> Windows Update, the text "Some Settings are managed by your organization" might be shown even though the system isn’t being managed by an organization or have any group policies enabled. This is a bug caused by an updated flight configuration setting for Insider Preview builds.
- Quicken 2017 will fail to run with an error stating that the .NET Framework 4.6.1 is not installed. The workaround is to take ownership of the following keys and edit the "version" value to be 4.6.XXXXX instead of 4.7.XXXXX:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP\v4\Client
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP\v4\Full
- Some Tencent apps and games may crash or not work correctly in this build.
- Connecting an Xbox 360 or Xbox One controller will cause DWM to crash.
- When using Microsoft Edge with Narrator, you may hear "no item in view" or silence when navigating through tabs or using other navigation commands.
- Taskbar preview icons are unusually small on high-DPI devices.
- The "Holographic" entry appears on the main page of the Settings app, but it's not functional.
- When clicking on certain elements in Win32 games, the game minimizes and cannot be restored.
- Dragging apps from the all apps list on the Start menu won't work. Right click to pin the desired app.
- Certain sites in Microsoft Edge have a chance of unexpectedly showing "We can’t reach this page". If this happens, browse the site from an InPrivate tab.
- "Hey Cortana, play (song) on (app name)" doesn’t work immediately after installing the app. Wait five minutes for the indexer to activate and try again.
