Windows 1.03.04 is a port of Windows 1.03 made by Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) for their Rainbow 100-B computer.

It is currently available in a form of two pre-installed copies, though an original 5,25" installation media is supposed to exist.[1]

Installation[edit | edit source]

Use the MAME emulator running the Rainbow 100-B machine with 512k or more memory configured.

Step-by-step[edit | edit source]

  1. Create a 10MB or 20MB CHD hard disk image with standard CHS values using the chdman tool.
  2. Boot the machine, open the main configuration menu using the Tab key:
    • In DIP Switches, enable DEC HARD DISK (#1) and GRAPHICS OPTION
    • Set your CHD image to harddisk1 (File Manager menu)
    • Set the MS-DOS 3.10b boot disk to floppydisk1
    • Set the Winchester Utilities (WUTIL) disk image to floppydisk2 and reboot the machine
  3. Run the aforementioned utility (WUTIL) to prepare your CHD image by using "format and initialize hard disk" and following on-screen instructions.
  4. Partition and format the hard drive by using FDISK, FORMAT and SYS utilities.
