 On 6 December 2018, Microsoft announced a plan to rebuild Edge from scratch as a classic Win32 application, which would be based on Chromium and would be available for [[Windows 10]], [[Windows 8.1]] and [[Windows 7]]. It is also planned to bring Edge to "other platforms like [[macOS]]". On or before 24 March 2019, preview versions of the Chromium-based browser were leaked to the internet. On or before 8 April 2019, preview versions of the new browser were officially released. The Chromium version of Edge was released on 15 January 2020.
