'''AmigaOS''', initially called '''Amiga Workbench''' was a series of operating systems designed for the Amiga line of computers, initially released in 1985 after the introduction of the Amiga 1000 computer. It was initially developed by Commodore International, and introduced a Workbench metaphor. The operating system consists of a firmware component called Kickstart, a disk operating system called AmigaDOS, a windowing system called Intuition, and a desktop enviroment called Workbench. After the downfall of Commodore in the 1990s, Haage & Partner were granted a license to update the operating system in 1999, with AmigaOS 3.5. While the user interface largely resembles 3.1, it introduced improvements under the hood, such as ReactionGUI. In 2001, Hyperion Entertainment introduced AmigaOS 4.0 exclusively for the PPC platform, with the final version introduced in 2006, and in 2008, AmigaOS 4.1 was released, with 4.1 Final Edition in 2014. In 2018, they released AmigaOS 3.1.4, a huge update for 3.1 with almost all the changes in 3.5 and other features, with a minor bugfix released later on. In 2021, they released AmigaOS 3.2 with the same features as 3.1.4.1 with a few under the hood changes Currently, the Amiga intellectual property was fragmented between Amiga Inc., Cloanto and Hyperion Entertainment.
