Mac OS X Leopard build 9A241 is the first developer beta build of Mac OS X Leopard, which was distributed to developers on 7 August 2006 after being demoed during WWDC '06.[1] This build requires a Mac with a PowerPC G3, G4, G5, or Intel processor to work.

Time Machine[edit | edit source]

Time Machine, an automated backup utility, has been added.

Spaces[edit | edit source]

Spaces has been added for creating multiple desktops.

Finder[edit | edit source]

  • Grid spacing can now be adjusted in Finder.[2]
  • Trash now includes an "Empty" button.

Spotlight[edit | edit source]

  • Spotlight can now be opened in its own dedicated window.
  • An early version of Quick Look has been added to Spotlight.

Safari[edit | edit source]

  • Web Clips for Safari 3 has been added.
  • Bookmarks can now be viewed in its own separate page.
  • "Find" has been added for searching words on a web page.

iChat[edit | edit source]

  • iChat has been updated to no longer use the brushed metal design.
  • An option to automatically save chat transcripts has been added.
  • Multiple chats can now viewed in the same window.
  • Address Book is no longer required for adding buddies.

Application support[edit | edit source]

  • 64-bit applications are now supported.
  • Support for Classic applications has been removed.

Miscellaneous[edit | edit source]

  • Menu bar items can now be searched from the "Help" menu.
  • Similar to iChat, the brushed metal design has been removed from Automator and DVD Player.
  • Support for multiple accounts has been added to iCal.
  • Mail now supports RSS Feeds, Stationery, Notes, and to-dos.
  • GIF captures can now be taken in Photo Booth.
  • Text-to-speech has been updated to be more natural.

Bugs and quirks[edit | edit source]

  • The audio doesn't work when headphones are plugged in.[3]
  • The icons for external volumes are placed incorrectly.
  • Safari doesn’t work out of the box on G3 Macs, but one can manually install Safari 3.1.1 from the Safari Tiger update and it functions as normal.
