Mac OS X Cheetah build 4K17 is a build of Mac OS X Cheetah. It was first shown off at Macworld 2001, where it was depicted running on a Power Mac G4.[1] It was later referenced in a legal demand from Apple against a blogging website, requesting that screenshots of the build itself be removed, along with images of build 4K8.[2]

No known screenshots or photographs of this build have been archived as of yet.

Changes from Mac OS X Public Beta[edit | edit source]

  • The dock can now be displayed on the left or right sides of the display.[3]
  • The Image Capture application has been added, which can be used to import photos from a digital camera.[4]
  • Improvements have been made to the startup disk panel in System Preferences.[5]
  • Several UI improvements have been made to the Finder.
  • MPEG support in QuickTime has been re-added.
  • Speech recognition and text-to-speech support has been added.
  • The "Net Probe" utility has been renamed to "Network Utility".
  • The GNU port of Chess has been added.
