iOS 17.4 build 21E5184i is the official Beta 1 release of iOS 17.4, which was released to Apple developers on 25 January 2024.[1]
New features and changes[edit | edit source]
Digital Markets Act[edit | edit source]
iOS now complies with the Digital Markets Act’s requirements in the European Union.[2] As such, the following changes have been made for users in the EU:
- The ability to download apps from alternate app marketplaces has been added.
- Safari has a new pop-up which promotes alternate web browsers to users.
- Users can now set a default contactless payment provider for tap-to-pay terminals.
Miscellaneous[edit | edit source]
- Several new Emojis have been added, which are apart of the Emoji 15.1 update.[3]
- An option to always require a security delay with Stolen Device Protection has been added.
- Users can now be informed if their AirPods are connected to a non-Apple device.
- A new Live Activity for the Clock app's stopwatch feature has been added.[4]
- The Podcasts app now includes auto-generated transcriptions for episodes.
- The "Listen Now" tab in the Music app has been renamed to "Home".
- Siri now has the ability to read messages that aren't in the user's primary language.
- Privacy options for contactless payment has been added to the Settings app.
- The device's identifiable region information will now be displayed under the about page in the Settings app.
- The address bar in Safari has been made slightly wider.
