Windows Polaris OS build 16299 is the only available build of Windows Polaris OS as of 2024, based upon an updated version of the final release of the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update. The ARM32 compile of this build was shared on 2 January 2021.
The build, identifying itself as "Windows OneCore 10" in the boot manager, contains nearly nothing in terms of user experience, and only includes several built-in UWP apps such as the placeholder DefaultApp
application list shell (seen in several MinWin-based Windows distributions such as Xbox One OS and early Windows 10 IoT Core builds) and CloudExperienceHost
, the main application for the Windows 10 out-of-box experience. Additionally present in the image are several WCOS-specific debugging utilities and a fallback diagnostic composer application that is automatically invoked by the CoreShellHost
application if an appropriate composer crashes, fails to run or is otherwise not present.
As there is currently no known way to get past the fake GUI mode boot screen presented by the operating system, the only thing doable at this point is to shut down the device it is running on, print a running processes list over a serial console or potentially open a command prompt session through the Special Administration Console (SAC).
