User:Username.php/Permission gaming

This page is an essay, containing the advice or opinions of one or more BetaWiki contributors. Essays are not BetaWiki policies or guidelines. Some essays represent widespread norms; others only represent minority viewpoints.

Permission gaming is when a user makes unconstructive edits to get autoconfirmed or extended confirmed. Not all the edits has to be unconstructive.

Examples[edit | edit source]

Gaming autoconfirmed[edit | edit source]

A new editor makes ten edits in sandbox or userspace to become autoconfirmed, and then creates a bad page, abuse the move tool, or otherwise edits disruptively or vandalizes articles.

Gaming extended confirmed[edit | edit source]

An editor makes many unconstructive edits in sandbox or userspace to become extended confirmed, and then vandalizes extended confirmed protected pages.

How to edit the sandbox without being accused of permission gaming[edit | edit source]

Show preview (best for privacy protection)[edit | edit source]

Use the show preview button once you have made the changes but do not save them. This will give a preview of what it looks like when saved.

Unregistered editing (your IP address will be visible in the history)[edit | edit source]

If you really want to test publishing, edit unregistered. But be warned, your IP address will be exposed forever until a suppressor takes it down which likely will never happen.
