Windows Server 2016 build 14393 (rs1_release_d_srv.160912-1700) is a post-RTM build of Windows Server 2016. It is the base build for the initial release of the second Azure Stack Technical Preview,[a] publicly released by Microsoft on 26 September 2016[2] in the form of a Hyper-V Generation 2 disk image. The second Azure Stack Technical Preview release implements support for Key Vault, Queue and iDNS, and further improves support for existing storage application programming interfaces and virtualization capabilities.[3]

The main Cloud Builder disk image additionally features two built-in disk image templates for both the Desktop Experience and Server Core variants of this build, the Windows Server 2012 R2 general availability release, as well as a customized image file for build 10005 (winmain)'s Preinstallation Environment, intended for remote deployment scenarios.

Cloud Builder image modifications[edit | edit source]

By default, the main Cloud Builder disk image is configured with the following roles and features:

  • ASP.NET
  • Active Directory Domain Services
  • Domain Name Service (DNS)
  • Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP)
  • Data Center Bridging
  • Failover Clustering
  • Hyper-V
  • Internet Information Services
  • Windows Deployment Services
  • Windows Process Activation
  • Windows Server Update Services

The above roles and features are not installed by default in the Desktop Experience and Server Core disk image templates. Additional cloud management and monitoring utilities for on-premises and remote deployments are shared across the main and template disk images.
