Windows 8 build 8172 is an unleaked build of Windows 8. Several screenshots was shown on PCBeta on 21 December 2011.[1]

This is the earliest known build to load the navigation (back, forward and menu) button resources from the active theme's msstyles, rather than from ExplorerFrame.dll. This build also removes the "shadow" effect formerly present behind these buttons, starting from Windows Vista, and uses a different function to create the buttons resulting in different transparency behaviour.
