Windows 11 build 22635.3420 is a build of Windows 11 2023 Update. It was released to Windows Insiders in the Beta Channel on 29 March 2024.

New features and changes[edit | edit source]

File Explorer[edit | edit source]

The drag-and-drop functionality between breadcrumbs has been implemented into the address bar. This feature is only available to a subset of users, but can be activated manually by enabling the 47664723 and 48433719 velocity staging keys.

Start menu[edit | edit source]

The ability to list apps under All apps section in a grid view has been added. This feature is disabled by default, but can be activated manually by enabling the 47205210 (with variant parameter set to 2) and 48433719 velocity staging keys.

Shell[edit | edit source]

The ability to show additional quick status (such as sports, traffic and finance) beside weather on lock screen, initially introduced in Windows 10 build 19045.4233, has been ported to this build and rolled out to a subset of users. It can be activated manually by enabling the 47921515 and 47921574 velocity staging keys.
If the taskbar is left-aligned, the Widgets entry point will move to the left of the systems tray and will fly out from the right side instead of the left side when launching the Widgets dashboard. This change is only available to a subset of users, but can be activated manually by enabling the 48468527, 48468541 and 48660958 velocity staging keys.
A new button has been added to the Windows Share flyout to generate QR codes for URLs and cloud file links. This feature is only available to a subset of users, but can be activated manually by enabling the 46961347 velocity staging key.
Clicking outside the Windows Share flyout will no longer close it.

Copilot[edit | edit source]

A new, compact variant of Copilot suggestion menu on the taskbar has been added and can be toggled via Personalization > Copilot in Windows in the Settings app. This feature is disabled by default, but can be activated manually by enabling the 45596742, 45690501, 49010421 and 49035782 velocity staging keys.

Windows Backup[edit | edit source]

The ability to backup and restore sound settings (including chosen sound scheme) via the Windows Backup app has been added.
The ability to sign-in with a Microsoft account directly within the Windows Backup app has been rolled out to a subset of users.

Bugfixes[edit | edit source]

Fixed an issue that was causing File Explorer to crash on launch in certain cases in build 22635.3350.
Fixed an issue where the option to set a different wallpaper on each desktop wasn't working.
Fixed an issue which could potentially result in no app results showing in Search anymore.
Fixed an issue where Task Manager was holding onto process handles sometimes, leading to processes not stopping when closing apps if users had Task Manager open.

Bugs and quirks[edit | edit source]

Internet Information Services (IIS) and Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) may not work after installing this build.
Pressing ⇧ Shift+F10 may unexpectedly open Show More Options in the File Explorer context menu.
Toggling the Widgets option under Personalization > Taskbar in the Settings app may refresh the taskbar.
Swipe invocation for the Widgets board and unpinning the Widgets entry point from the taskbar may not work if the taskbar is center-aligned.
The Widgets board may be incorrectly positioned when Copilot is in side-by-side mode.
