Shell Technology Preview build 1057
|Build of Windows NT 3.51|
Shell Technology Preview build 1057 (also known as Shell Technology Preview Update or NewShell 2) is a replacement shell provided by Microsoft for testing and debugging Windows 95-compliant applications in Windows NT. The end result is an early version of the Windows NT 4.0 shell and user interface, complete with icons and some feature additions. It was made available to MSDN users and well as on CompuServe/Microsoft's website.
Two versions of NewShell exist, the latter (build 1057) fixing bugs in the original NewShell release. Both releases make Windows NT 3.51 identify as Windows NT 4.0.
Shell Technology Preview can be installed in any version of Windows NT 3.51, but Briefcase support requires Service Pack 5 to be installed. Updating Windows NT (via Service Packs) requires uninstalling NewShell.
