Windows 11 build 26120.3281 is a build of Windows 11 2024 Update. It was released to the Windows Insiders in the Beta and Dev Channels on 14 February 2025 as the KB5037898 enablement update to build 26100.3281 (KB5052086), along with build 22635.4945. This build was distributed as a checkpoint cumulative update that contains incremental changes since build 26100.1742.

New features and changes[edit | edit source]

Features[edit | edit source]

The following previously introduced features and changes have been gradually rolled out:

  • The ability to show inline messaging and ⊞ Win+Z shortcut hint under the Snap flyout and Snap bar (respectively implemented in builds 22635.4510 and 22635.4655; can be activated manually by enabling the 53655156 and 53655173 velocity staging keys, with the variant parameter set to 0 through 5 for different descriptions)
  • New PC Game Pass interactive card under the Home page for referring a PC Game Pass subscription to friends (initially implemented in build 22635.4805)
  • The "Resume" feature, a device syncing functionality that aims to create a seamless OneDrive integration between mobile phone and the Windows desktop environment (previously implemented in build 26120.1930 and can be activated manually by enabling the 48433719 and 49527529 velocity staging keys.
  • New Share button next to recently used items in a jump list for quickly sharing (previously implemented in build build 26120.2510 and can be activated manually by enabling the 45738940 and 48433719 velocity staging keys)
  • New right-click context menu for turning off or snoozing the "Start backup" reminder in File Explorer's address bar (previously implemented in build 26120.2992 and can be activated manually by enabling the 47944061 and 48433719 velocity staging keys)
  • The ability to open a Spotlight flyout automatically while hovering over the Spotlight button on the desktop (previously implemented in build 26120.2992 and can be activated manually by enabling the 48433719 and 48656084 velocity staging keys)
  • The ability to restore all previously opened tabs in each File Explorer window at logon if the "Restore previous folder windows at logon" option is enabled (previously implemented in build 26120.2992 and can be activated manually by enabling the 48433719 and 54572881 velocity staging keys)
  • Updates to the top right hotspot on the lock screen (initially implemented in build 22635.4655 and can be activated manually by enabling the 53844009 velocity staging key with the variant parameter set to 1, 3 or 4 for different icons and descriptions)
  • The removal of the "Location History" feature as well as its corresponding settings under Privacy & securityLocation in the Settings app (initially implemented in build 27788 and can be activated manually by enabling the 54920368 velocity staging key.

The following previously introduced features and changes have also been ported to this build, albeit being disabled by default:

  • Improvements to support for the text scaling across File Explorer, file open/save dialogs and the copy dialogs that follows text size preference under AccessibilityText Size in the Settings app (initially implemented in build 22635.4515 and can be activated manually by enabling the 47274802 and 48433719 velocity staging keys)
  • New "Drag here to Share" tray at the top of the screen when using drag-and-drop on a file (initially implemented in build 22635.4805 and can be activated manually by enabling the 45624564, 48433719 and 53397005 velocity staging keys)
  • New "Your widgets" option under PersonalizationLock screen in the Settings app along with the ability to add, remove, rearrange and customize lock screen widgets (initially implemented in build 22635.4870 and can be activated manually by updating Web Experience Pack, Start Experiences App and Widgets Platform Runtime to the latest version, and then enabling the 50179255 and 53672489 velocity staging keys)

Recall[edit | edit source]

  • The Mica Alt material has been implemented to the overall UI elements.
  • Several new filtering options has been added to the Recall system tray flyout. These options are disabled by default, but can be activated manually by enabling the 48433719 and 51481164 velocity staging keys.

Click to Do[edit | edit source]

Hovering on the icon in the toolbar will show a balloon tooltip that mentions the Click to Do feature. It's disabled by default, but can be activated manually by enabling the 54739094 velocity staging key.

File Explorer[edit | edit source]

The account-based content under Recent, Favorites, Details pane, and the Recommended section in the Home page has been disabled for Entra IDs in the European Economic Area (EEA).

Settings[edit | edit source]

The Home page on managed commercial devices with Education, Enterprise and IoT Enterprise SKUs, previously implemented in build 26120.2200 and rolled out in build 26120.3073, has been temporarily disabled by default due to some issues. It still can be activated manually by enabling the 53281237 velocity staging key.

Bugfixes[edit | edit source]

General[edit | edit source]

Fixed an issue where if DeviceLock password policies were configured, signing in with a Guest account using Shared PC would fail.

Shell[edit | edit source]

  • Fixed an issue where resetting password from the login screen won't work due to an underlying crash.
  • Fixed an issue when using multiple monitors, where the distance between the date and time and edge of the screen wasn't consistent.
  • Fixed an issue where when using a non-default mouse color (enabled in AccessibilityMouse pointer and touch in the Settings app), it may unexpectedly revert back to white when encountering a UAC dialog.

File Explorer[edit | edit source]

Fixed an issue causing the ellipsis menu in the command bar to open in the wrong direction for some resolutions.

Settings[edit | edit source]

Fixed an issue that causing the Settings app to crash on launch in certain cases.

Task Manager[edit | edit source]

Fixed the issue that was causing unexpectedly high DCOM CPU usage after opening the Performance section.

Windows Search (LSI)[edit | edit source]

  • Fixed the issue that was causing AI sparkle and underline animation to not present in the File Explorer and taskbar's search box.
  • Fixed the issue that was causing the search box on the taskbar to not have the same underline and sparkles icon UI that the File Explorer search box has.
  • Fixed the issue that was causing LSI for Windows Search to not be available in certain cases.
  • Fixed the issue that was causing File explorer search to be unresponsive in certain cases.
  • Fixed the issue where the tip about the new search improvements would appear whenever the focus is set to File Explorer's search box, rather than only once.

Bugs and quirks[edit | edit source]

General[edit | edit source]

Performing a system reset under SystemRecovery in the Settings app may cause the KB5037898 enablement update to be uninstalled unexpectedly, consequently reverting major build number to 26100.

File Explorer[edit | edit source]

Users may experience serious lag when closing File Explorer using the X button, or clicking on other title bar buttons.

Recall[edit | edit source]

  • Recall may unable to automatically save snapshots, and the setting may not be turned on in the Settings page.
  • Clicking links within Recall to submit feedback may experience a delay in loading the Feedback Hub app.
  • The message "Make sure Recall is saving snapshots" may unexpectedly show while the Settings page for Recall shows saving snapshots is enabled.
  • Recall may not currently work with some accessibility applications.

The colors in the new battery icon may not display correctly when the color mode under PersonalizationColors is set to certain options with Custom.

Accessibility[edit | edit source]

  • Live captions may crash on launch for the first time.
  • Switching languages may crash live captions if audio is playing or the microphone is enabled.
