Talk:Windows 11 2022 Update

Redirect Nickel to this[edit source]

Nickel should be redirect to this because both contains same content Someone (talk) 08:42, 21 April 2022 (UTC)

Development semesters are not tied to any Windows release. Plus, the Nickel page also contains server builds, so redirecting that page to this one would be a bad idea. Jurta (talkcontribs) 08:46, 21 April 2022 (UTC)

About the update naming scheme[edit source]

Since Windows 10 November Update in 2015, Microsoft has gave names to updates so that general users could understand updates rather than using its respective version number. For example, Microsoft would name the update based on the month and year when the update was released. In the past though, they have used specialized names for updates before like the Windows 10 Anniversary Update and the 2 Creators updates for Windows 10 that were released in 2017. Also, the first update for Windows 10 was just named, Windows 10 November Update.

However, I really do not know if Microsoft will start using the version number in the update naming scheme or not. Based on activity from Microsoft, I think the Windows 11, version 22H2 name looks like it will be the final name for the update. The same also will likely go for Windows 10, version 22H2.

Or maybe they have not annouced the actual names for the updates yet. Although the release dates for the updates seem to be nearing more closer.

Well, 2 days ago Windows 11, version 22H2 was officially named, "Windows 11 2022 Update", which was the name that was first seen in that update to the Get Started app that was pushed late last month. This also makes me wonder if the upcoming Windows 10, version 22H2 will follow the same name format given that Microsoft has moved on to annual updates now.

Did this version remove any features?[edit source]

I have been looking online in the 7 days since the release of Windows 11 2022 Update and I have not been able to find any website that has documented a list of features that were removed in this version. Usually, Microsoft updates the list of deprecated features and removed features for a particular new release.

I think that it may be possible that nothing notable was removed in this version in terms of major functionality or technical stuff.

The legacy Disk Cleanup tool, for example. - 2.206.220.240 15:45, 27 September 2022 (UTC)

Well, it actually has not been removed.

Split each moment update into Beta, Release Preview and Updates subsections[edit source]

Moment 1 features has been released to the public as 22621.675, however 22622 is not released to the public but is rather an enablement update exclusively for the Beta Channel and likewise for 22623 (indicating that 22622 & 22623 is likely for testing by Beta Channel that enables the Moment features early, before the Moment features get rolled out for 22621 which is for RP and public release). Release Preview channel tested Moment 1's features that rolled out starting with 22621.608 (Release Preview) which came after 22622.601 (Beta)

Because of this it might be better to categorize the Moment 1 CUs into each respective section (Beta, Release Preview, Updates). Currently the 22622.xxx builds are only released to Beta Channel, while the other Moment 1 CUs are released to Release Preview and eventually public as 22621.6xx builds as the Beta Channel moved forward to Moment 2 testing as 22623.xxx builds. 116.15.30.166 01:40, 19 October 2022 (UTC)

UWP File Explorer[edit source]

Recently, I was trying to open the hidden file explorer based on Universal Windows Platform and saw the icons has been updated from Segoe MDL2 to Segoe Fluent. I asked users on Reddit. One of the comments said that the RTM of 22H2 did not have the updated icon. I think that this change happens in some Insider builds and going to add it to BetaWiki but I can't know what exact build that this change happended. I'm running on build 22623.891.

Moment 2 Update build missing[edit source]

Oddly enough the final Moment 2 Update build seems missing, i.e. build 22621.1413. [1] I didn't feel comfortable jumping in and adding builds though. Northgrove (talk) 09:52, 28 March 2023 (UTC)

The same thing happeneded to 22621.675, but 22621 CUs are considered not-notable and if they were added they will be quickly deleted. Only Moment beta builds (2262x) are considered notable enough to be added. User:Someone/Signature/Design1
Hmm, alright. My life won't depend on this matter but I do fail to see how a Moment RTM build is not notable. ~~

Separate Moment 4 beta updates to Windows 11, version 23H2?[edit source]

Since build 22631.2048 identifies itself as version 23H2, I think we should move those Moment 4 builds to that article just saying. FinnieLoudtiago (talk) 17:15, 13 July 2023 (UTC)

Also already confirmed in this link. FinnieLoudtiago (talk) 17:30, 13 July 2023 (UTC)
